Kano Police Nab 20-Year-Old Suspect Over Armed Robbery, Murder
The Kano State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old suspect in connection with a violent armed robbery that resulted in the death of a 30-year-old man in Danbare Quarters, Kano.
According to a press statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the tragic incident occurred on Monday, May 5, at about 6:40 am. The victim, identified as Shehu Muhammad, was reportedly attacked by two suspected robbers who broke into his residence and inflicted multiple injuries on him using a long, sharp cutlass.

Upon receiving a distress call from a concerned resident, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, swiftly dispatched a team of detectives and operational personnel to the scene. The victim was immediately rushed to the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor.
“One of the suspects, Aliyu Umar, a 20-year-old male, was arrested at the scene, and the weapon used in the attack was recovered from him,” the statement noted. The suspect is currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations. Authorities have assured that he will be prosecuted accordingly.
The command praised the swift action of community members for reporting the incident and supporting law enforcement in apprehending the suspect. It also reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
