Governor Yusuf Commends DSS Over Arrest of Child Kidnappers in Kano

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has lauded the Directorate of State Services (DSS) for its prompt and effective action in arresting five suspects linked to the kidnapping and gruesome murder of a one-year-old girl, Sakina Mamuda, in Duhun Bake village, Gwarzo Local Government Area.

In a statement released by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the suspects were alleged to have kidnapped the toddler, demanded ransom from her family, and subsequently killed her, dumping her remains in an abandoned open well.

The suspects — Zailani Rabiu, Hafizu Yusuf, Abubakar Abdulkareem, Umar Lawan, and Amadu Salisu — all hail from the same community as their victim. They are currently under investigation for criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, and homicide.

Speaking during a joint press briefing at the Government House in Kano, the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Haruna Isa Dederi, alongside the Commissioner for Information and other senior officials, reaffirmed the state government’s resolve to ensure that justice is served swiftly and without compromise.

Governor Yusuf expressed profound grief over the tragic incident and praised the DSS and other security agencies for their swift response. He reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to bolstering security in the state through enhanced investment in intelligence gathering, inter-agency cooperation, and logistical support.

“This senseless tragedy has shaken us to the core,” the Governor stated. “I commend the DSS for acting swiftly and decisively. We will continue to prioritize the safety of our people and ensure that those who threaten our peace are brought to justice.”

He further assured that the state government will continue to provide security agencies with the tools and resources they need to fight crime effectively. He also urged citizens to remain vigilant and assist security agencies by sharing credible information that could prevent such crimes.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage across the state, with members of the public demanding swift prosecution of the suspects and the imposition of the full weight of the law on anyone found guilty of harming innocent children.
