Army Launches Operation to Flush Out Bandits from Kwara-Niger Axis

The Nigerian Army has commenced a major counter-insurgency operation targeted at eliminating bandits and other criminal elements hiding within the Kainji Lake National Park and surrounding border areas between Kwara and Niger States.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Maj.-Gen. Obinna Onubogu, announced the launch of the operation—codenamed “Operation Park Strike Four”—during a press briefing in Kaiama, Kwara State on Saturday.

According to Onubogu, the operation is being carried out under the directive of the Chief of Army Staff and involves the deployment of well-trained troops to comb through the forested areas and neutralize any threats to national security.

“The troops have been mobilized into the forest to flush out criminal elements operating within and around the park,” the GOC stated. “We are committed to restoring peace and public confidence in the region.”

He emphasized that the military operation will be executed in collaboration with other security agencies and support from local communities to ensure sustained security in the area.

Troops participating in the operation are expected to cover over 90 kilometers of dense forest terrain from Kemanji into the heart of the Kainji forest reserve.

The Nigerian Army’s intensified efforts are part of ongoing national strategies to tackle armed banditry, protect natural reserves, and reinforce territorial safety across vulnerable border communities.
