Nigerian Army Commences 2025 Captain to Major Promotion Examination, Warns Against Malpractices

The Nigerian Army has commenced the 2025 Captain to Major Written Promotion Examination (CMWPE), urging candidates to maintain discipline and avoid all forms of examination malpractice. The exercise began on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport (NASST), Benin City, Edo State.

This is disclosed by Spokesperson of TRADOC, Lt Colonel Sani UBA.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Commander of Training and Doctrine Command, Nigerian Army (TRADOC NA), Major General Kevin Aligbe, who doubles as the Examination President, reiterated the Army’s zero-tolerance stance on examination misconduct.

Maj Gen Aligbe congratulated the candidates for reaching this milestone in their military careers and advised them to approach the examination with utmost seriousness. He emphasized that success in the examination is a key prerequisite for promotion to the rank of Major.

“The need to pass this examination cannot be overemphasized. Your performance here is a critical determinant of your career progression,” he said. He warned that any form of malpractice would attract severe sanctions capable of jeopardizing their future in the Army.

Aligbe assured the candidates of fairness, transparency, and integrity in the conduct of the examination, adding that a dedicated team of examiners had worked meticulously to ensure a fair assessment process.

“This examination is not just a routine assessment but a measure of your capacity and readiness to assume higher responsibilities within the Nigerian Army,” he stated.

Earlier, the Commandant of NASST, Major General Adebayo Adegbite, in his welcome remarks, highlighted the significance of the examination as a catalyst for career advancement and professional development. He reminded candidates of the month-long preparatory cadre and mock examination conducted to assess their readiness.

“We expect a good performance from all candidates, given the level of preparation. Adhere strictly to the examination guidelines and shun any form of malpractice,” Adegbite cautioned.

Addressing security concerns, the Commandant urged participants to be vigilant due to prevailing security threats in Benin City. He advised them to minimize unnecessary movements, move in pairs when required, and maintain open communication channels.

The opening ceremony was attended by senior military officials, including the Deputy Chief of Training (Army), Major General Ayoola Aboaba; Chief of Training, TRADOC NA, Major General Peter Okoye; Acting Director Examination, TRADOC NA, Brigadier General Danjuma Dantani; and observers from the Army Headquarters Department of Training, Department of Army Standard and Evaluation, and the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre.

The event concluded with a group photograph of dignitaries, directing staff, and candidates.
