DHQ Exposes Fake Terrorist Propaganda Video Linked to Marte Attack

The Defence Headquarters has debunked a viral video circulating on social media, purportedly depicting a recent attack on Nigerian troops in Marte, Borno State, describing it as a recycled terror propaganda aimed at misleading the public and undermining military operations.

In a statement signed by Major General M.G. Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) revealed that the video was originally posted on December 7, 2020, and bore no connection to the actual incident in Marte that occurred in the early hours of Monday, May 12, 2025.

“The visual content, terrain, and operational context clearly indicate that the footage is from a different location and time. It is a deliberate attempt by criminal elements and sympathizers of terrorist groups to spread fear and erode public confidence in the ongoing military operations,” the statement read.

According to the Defence Headquarters, Nigerian troops successfully repelled the real attack in Marte after a fierce gun battle at approximately 3:00 am on May 12.

A large number of terrorists were neutralized during the exchange, while several others fled with bullet wounds. The military emphasized that no footage from the encounter has been officially released, warning the public against being misled by manipulated content.

The military condemned the circulation of the fake video in the strongest terms, labeling it a malicious act designed to demoralize troops and spread misinformation.

“This act of disinformation is not only irresponsible but also criminal. The individuals behind such campaigns will be identified and prosecuted in accordance with the law,” the Defence Headquarters warned.

Reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, the military assured citizens that operations across the North East and other theatres of conflict are yielding significant progress in dismantling terrorist networks.

The public has been urged to disregard the fake video and rely solely on official channels for verified information on security matters.

“The support and cooperation of all Nigerians remain vital in the collective fight against terrorism and insecurity. Together, we shall overcome,” the statement said.
