CDS Pledges Renewed Military Offensive to End Insurgency in North-East
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has reaffirmed the military’s resolve to decisively end the insurgency ravaging Nigeria’s North-East region, pledging renewed offensive and the deployment of enhanced combat platforms to boost ongoing operations.
General Musa made this declaration during his operational visit to the Headquarters of Theatre Command Joint Task Force (JTF) North-East Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) in Maiduguri on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
The Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command Operation HADIN KAI, Captain Reuben Kovangiya, disclosed this in a press statement on Friday morning.
While addressing troops, the CDS stated that additional platforms and combat enablers would soon be injected into the Theatre to reinforce military capability and accelerate progress in the counter-insurgency campaign.

“I urge you to remain aggressive and unrelenting in confronting the Boko Haram terrorists. The nation is counting on us as its last hope,” General Musa charged officers and men during his visit, which included a comprehensive briefing on recent operational developments by the Theatre Commander, Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar.
In his remarks, Major General Abubakar thanked the CDS for his visit, describing it as a clear indication of the high priority and attention given to Operation HADIN KAI under the current defence leadership.
Before arriving at the Theatre Headquarters, General Musa also visited the scene of a recent explosion at Giwa Barracks in Maiduguri, where he received firsthand updates from Brigadier General Abdul-Razak Kazeem, Commander of the 47 Engineers Brigade.
The CDS lauded the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team for their swift and professional response in securing the affected area. He encouraged the personnel to sustain their discipline and commitment, promising continuous support to aid their critical operations.
General Musa was accompanied on the visit by Principal Staff Officers from both the Defence and Services Headquarters, emphasizing a spirit of jointness and collaboration as the military intensifies its counter-terrorism efforts.
