Customs, Immigration Deepen Collaboration on Enhancing Training, Border Security

In a renewed push to enhance border management and national security, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have pledged to strengthen their institutional collaboration, with a particular focus on training and capacity development.

This commitment was reaffirmed during a courtesy visit on May 13, 2025, by the Commandant of the Nigeria Immigration Training School, Kano, Comptroller Idris Ozigi, to the Customs Training College (CTC), Goron Dutse, Kano.

Welcoming the delegation, Commandant of the CTC, Comptroller Isah Aliyu, underscored the pivotal roles both agencies play in safeguarding Nigeria’s borders. He emphasized the importance of sustained synergy between the two services, noting that their long-standing cooperation remains critical to national security objectives.

“The Customs Training College remains committed to working with sister agencies,” Comptroller Aliyu stated. “We value our collaboration with the Immigration Training School and will continue to strengthen our shared efforts in training and security.”

The visit served as a platform to explore joint capacity-building programmes, cross-agency knowledge exchange, and the reinforcement of institutional cooperation. Both commandants agreed that inter-agency synergy is essential to building a responsive and professional security workforce capable of tackling evolving threats.

Comptroller Ozigi commended the Customs Training College for its openness to collaboration and reiterated NIS’s dedication to joint development initiatives.

“We are committed to advancing the Customs–Immigration partnership through sustained knowledge sharing and capacity development,” Ozigi said. “This collaboration is vital to our shared training and national security goals.”

The engagement ended with a mutual pledge by both institutions to deepen their partnership, explore innovative areas of cooperation, and sustain ongoing joint efforts to bolster professionalism and operational effectiveness within the country’s border management system.
