How Police Rescued Alleged Child Kidnapper from Mob’s Jungle Justice in Ilorin
The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspected child kidnapper in Ilorin, following a viral video showing a young man accused of attempting to abduct a child.
According to a statement released by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the incident occurred on Friday, May 16, 2025, around 7:00 p.m., when a joint patrol team of police operatives and community vigilantes apprehended the suspect during a routine patrol.
The unidentified suspect, who claimed to be from Osun State, was reportedly caught by residents who accused him of trying to kidnap a child. A mob gathered and was on the verge of executing jungle justice before security agents intervened and took the man into custody.

“The suspect is currently being held while investigations are ongoing to verify the allegations and determine if any accomplices were involved,” the statement said. “At this time, the complainants are yet to present themselves at the Command Headquarters to aid further inquiry.”
The Command urged members of the public to refrain from taking the law into their own hands, stressing that mob action is illegal and could result in the wrongful punishment of innocent individuals.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo psc mnipr, reiterates the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all residents and upholding the rule of law. Citizens are encouraged to report all suspicious activity to the nearest police station rather than engage in violence,” the statement concluded.
