Hunters foil kidnap attempt, arrest suspects in Ondo
In a dramatic twist to the ongoing fight against kidnapping in Nigeria’s southwest, local hunters in Owo, headquarters of Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, have captured two suspected members of a kidnapping syndicate terrorizing the region.
The suspects were reportedly apprehended during a coordinated forest raid carried out by the hunters, who had been monitoring suspicious movements around the area. The swift operation led to the recovery of weapons, cutlasses, and other items including cans of beer and energy drinks believed to belong to the kidnappers.

A viral video circulating online shows the suspects restrained and being interrogated about their criminal activities. According to a resident who witnessed the aftermath and spoke anonymously, the hunters stormed the kidnappers’ hideout deep in the forest after tracking their location.
“Some of the criminals escaped, but two were unlucky and were dragged into town by the hunters,” the source said.
Police authorities in Ondo State have acknowledged the development. Speaking to newsmen, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed viewing the video and assured the public that the matter was receiving attention.
“I saw the video as well, and the command has commenced a thorough investigation into the incident,” he stated.
The arrest is the latest in a string of efforts by local security outfits to assist formal law enforcement agencies in tackling growing insecurity in rural and forested parts of the state.
