Nigeria, Slovakia Deepen Military Cooperation on Capacity Building, Tech Transfer
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has paid an official visit to the Slovak Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Bratislava, solidifying strategic military ties between both countries.
The high-level visit, which took place today, Friday, May 23, 2025, was marked by a ceremonial guard of honour hosted by the Slovak Chief of Defence, General Daniel Zmeko, and attended by senior Slovak defence officials.
Director of Defence Information, Brigadier General Tukur Gusau, disclosed this in a statement today.
He said during the bilateral engagement, both parties held in-depth discussions aimed at expanding military training and capacity-building programmes.
“The talks also explored the acquisition of modern defence equipment and the establishment of frameworks for technology transfer and innovation.

“A key focus of the meeting was enhancing Nigeria’s domestic defence production capabilities, with both sides agreeing to explore modalities for collaboration in defence industrialization,’ he said.
Gen Musa expressed Nigeria’s appreciation for Slovakia’s continued support and emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships in addressing global and regional security threats.
He highlighted the potential for joint ventures that could support Nigeria’s defence modernization efforts and self-reliance in military production.
On his part, Gen Zmeko praised Nigeria’s resilience in combating insecurity and reaffirmed Slovakia’s commitment to advancing military cooperation, particularly in knowledge exchange, innovation, and joint development of defence solutions.
The visit marks a significant milestone in Nigeria-Slovakia defence relations, setting the stage for long-term collaboration that aligns with Nigeria’s national security objectives and its drive for technological advancement in the defence sector.
