Police Neutralize 6 Criminals, Arrest 12, Recover Firearms
The Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued an 80-year-old kidnap victim, neutralized six suspected criminals, and arrested twelve others involved in various violent crimes, including armed robbery, carjacking, and kidnapping.
In a press statement issued on May 26, 2025, by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police revealed that operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, acting on credible intelligence, foiled a robbery attempt by a notorious carjacking syndicate in the Maitama area of Abuja.
The operation led to a gun battle in which one of the gang’s most wanted members, Abdulmininu Bello, alias Babanle, was neutralized. Seven other suspects were arrested at the scene, including ex-convicts Ibrahim Muhammad (22) and Isiaka Adamu, as well as Abubakar Abdullahi (22), Sarajo Yusuf (20), Sanusi Ali (51), Abubakar Sani, and Abdullahi Isah. Recovered from the syndicate were four AK-47 rifles, two locally made pistols, eleven rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, ten rounds of 9mm ammunition, a locally made shotgun, a 2004 Toyota Camry LE, and a red boxer motorcycle.

In another major breakthrough, the Jigawa State Police Command rescued Hajiya Hajara, an 80-year-old woman who had been kidnapped from Sarbi Village in Minjibir Local Government Area of Kano State. The kidnappers, believed to be twelve in number, had tried to escape through Jigawa but were intercepted by police operatives and local security outfits in a joint operation between Danzomo and Medi villages.
During the ensuing gunfight, five of the suspected kidnappers were killed while five others, including the gang leader identified as Yahaya (35), were arrested. The elderly victim was rescued unharmed and later discharged from the hospital after a medical check-up. The police recovered two AK-47 rifles, a locally fabricated LAR rifle, fourteen live rounds of ammunition, two motorcycles, and two mobile phones from the operation.
Commending the success of the operations, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, praised the courage of the officers involved and urged the public to remain vigilant by reporting suspicious activities. He reiterated the police force’s resolve to ensure public safety and bolster national security across the country.
