How Kidnapped Ijede Residents were Rescued in Ikorodu Creek…Manhunt Underway

Two residents abducted from their homes in an Ijede creekside settlement in Ikorodu, Lagos State, have been successfully rescued by a combined team of security operatives and local vigilantes.

The Lagos State Police Command announced their safe release on Sunday night, following an intense two-day rescue operation.

The incident unfolded at approximately 10:00 PM on Friday, May 23, 2025, when the Ijede Division received a distress call reporting gunshots in the Igbe Creek Side settlement.

Upon arrival, officers confirmed that two residents, whose homes are situated deep within the creek, had been attacked and abducted by unidentified hoodlums who fled into the surrounding creek and adjoining forest.

Following the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, a comprehensive rescue operation was immediately launched. More than fifteen police tactical squads, detectives, conventional police officers, local vigilantes, hunters, and community members were mobilized. They were strategically deployed to block all potential entry and exit points to the surrounding creek and forest, initiating an extensive search and rescue mission.

The coordinated pressure exerted on the kidnappers by the combined teams led to the successful release of the victims at approximately 10:00 PM on Sunday, May 25, 2025. Both individuals have since been safely reunited with their families.

While the victims are safe, the search for the perpetrators continues. All police tactical teams, squads, detectives, vigilantes, hunters, and local community members are currently combing the creek and the adjoining forest to apprehend the kidnappers and prevent further attacks on residents of the Ijede creek area.

The Lagos State Police Command has commended the bravery of its officers and the invaluable cooperation of local vigilantes, hunters, and community members. Their swift response was instrumental in the success of the operation, despite the inherent dangers and difficult access posed by the creek and forest terrains.

The Command reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all Lagos State residents. Members of the public, especially those residing in the Ijede creek and other challenging terrains, are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the Police Division or tactical squads deployed in the area, the nearest police station, or via the Command’s emergency lines: 08063299264 or 08065154338.
