Kano Police Arraign 29 Suspects Over Brutal Killing of DPO in Rano Community

In a significant development following the killing of CSP Baba Ali, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Rano Division in Kano State, the Kano State Police Command has arraigned 29 suspects linked to the tragic incident and related disturbances.

According to a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, the suspects were brought before Magistrate Court Number 20, located in Nomansland, Kano, on Thursday, June 5, 2025.

The statement detailed that 14 prime suspects were charged with culpable homicide and other serious offences including criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, mischief by fire, criminal trespass, causing grievous hurt, and theft.

In addition, 15 other suspects were arraigned for related offences, including criminal conspiracy, inciting disturbance, and mischief.

The Police Command reassured the public of its unwavering resolve to ensure justice is served and appreciated the outpouring of condolences and support from the general public. It urged residents to remain calm, cooperate with ongoing investigations, and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.

“The Command reiterates its commitment to maintaining law and order, and ensuring the safety and security of lives and property in the State,” the statement added.

The late CSP Baba Ali was reportedly killed during a violent incident in Rano, which also saw damage to public and private property. Investigations are ongoing.
