Nigerian Army Graduates 604 Special Forces to Boost National Security

The Nigerian Army has graduated 604 Special Forces after an intensive six-month training programme under the eighth session of ‘Exercise Restore Hope,’ aimed at strengthening national security and enhancing operational readiness.

The specialist training, which took place at the Nigerian Army Military Training Centre in Kachia, Kaduna State, covered both kinetic and non-kinetic aspects of modern warfare, preparing troops for Nigeria’s evolving security landscape.

At the graduation ceremony held on Tuesday, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, commended the graduating troops for their dedication and mastery of advanced military skills.

Oluyede, who was represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Mayirenso Saraso, highlighted the importance of the training in enhancing national defence.

He noted that the Special Forces had acquired advanced skills in marksmanship, weapon handling, precision targeting, and coordinated firepower, which would be crucial in ongoing and future operations across the country.

“These soldiers were carefully selected from various units and formations of the Nigerian Army to undergo specialised training designed to address contemporary security challenges,” Oluyede said.

“Their deployment is expected to significantly improve operational outcomes in key theatres of operation.”

The COAS emphasized that the training programme, which is held twice annually, forms a critical part of the Army’s continuous capacity-building strategy to confront the diverse threats facing Nigeria.

“The Special Forces have built on their basic soldiering skills to attain mission-oriented capabilities that will boost the overall effectiveness of troops deployed in the field,” Oluyede added.

The Army Chief further assured that the newly graduated Special Forces would play a strategic role in enhancing the Army’s operational efficiency and national security efforts as Nigeria continues to battle insurgency, banditry, and other forms of insecurity.
