MNJTF Brings Hope and Aid to Lake Chad Communities

In a significant stride towards fostering stability and peace, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), in collaboration with the African Union (AU), has completed a series of Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) projects in communities along the Chad-Nigeria border. These initiatives, delivered to Baga Sola, Litri, Bakatolerom, Barkalam, and Kaiga Ngoubenam, aim to address critical needs and alleviate the suffering of residents impacted by the Boko Haram insurgency.

This is disclosed in a statement by MNJTF Spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba.

The projects included the commissioning of two solar-powered boreholes in Litri and Bakatolerom, providing much-needed access to clean water. Additionally, the MNJTF distributed educational materials and a truckload of relief supplies to the various communities.

Major General Godwin Mutkut, the Force Commander of the MNJTF, represented by Deputy Force Commander Air Vice Marshal Mahamat Yaya Mahamat, emphasized that these gestures are a direct result of the collective commitment with the AU to support communities in the Baga Sola axis. He detailed the educational materials, which included textbooks, notebooks, pens, pencils, and crayons, all intended to enhance learning opportunities. The relief materials comprised essential items such as spaghetti, rice, praying mats, and maize flour, designed to provide immediate succor to the affected populations.

AVM Mahamat highlighted the MNJTF’s relentless efforts to create a safe and secure environment in the Lake Chad region. He stressed that military action alone is insufficient to resolve the complex security challenges, underscoring the critical role of CIMIC activities in supporting local populations and fostering a sense of community and cooperation.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiary communities, the Council Chairman expressed profound gratitude to the MNJTF, the AU, and all partners who supported the initiative. He pledged the communities’ commitment to keeping the MNJTF informed about any suspicious activities within their areas.

The handover ceremony was attended by key figures including the Commander Sector 1 and Commander Operation Lake Chad, Major General Moussa Haussa, and Dr. Christiana Idah, a representative of the African Union Mission Support Team. Also present were key commanders from Sector 1, along with local community leaders and members.
