Troops Foil ISWAP Attack, Neutralize Dozens of Terrorists in Borno
Troops under Operation Hadin Kai have successfully repelled a pre-dawn assault by fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on Azir, a community located in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State, PRNigeria reports.
According to military sources, the insurgents launched the attack around 4:30 a.m. in an attempt to overrun a military formation stationed in the area.
However, the soldiers mounted a prompt and overwhelming response, engaging the terrorists in a fierce gun battle that left several of them dead.

As reported by Zagazola Makama, the exact number of enemy casualties is yet to be verified, but bodies of the terrorists were recovered at the scene, while others reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds.
“The insurgents came in large numbers but met stiff resistance from our troops. We killed several of them, though the exact number is yet to be confirmed,” one of the sources said.
Troops have since maintained full control of the area and are currently carrying out mop-up operations in the surrounding bushes to track down fleeing elements of the terror group.
There were no casualties reported on the side of the military, and normalcy has been restored to the affected community.
