Tinubu Condemns Lynching of Wedding Guests in Plateau, Orders Arrest of Perpetrators

President Bola Tinubu has strongly condemned the brutal killing of 12 travellers, including members of a wedding entourage, in Plateau State, describing the attack as barbaric and unacceptable.

The victims, among them the father and brother of the groom, were reportedly travelling from Zaria in Kaduna State to Jos in Plateau State when they were ambushed and lynched by unidentified assailants. Several others sustained injuries during the attack.

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu directed the Nigerian Police Force to collaborate with other security and intelligence agencies to track down and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The government of Plateau State must take decisive action in handling these vicious cycles of violence,” the President said. “The state government must work with security agents to get to the root of this recent incident and use it as a deterrent against future occurrences.”

President Tinubu further emphasized the constitutional right of all Nigerians to move freely across the country, warning that the Federal Government would not tolerate any group or individual attempting to restrict that freedom through violence or intimidation.

“Freedom of movement by all citizens is non-negotiable. We will not tolerate any attempt by anyone or group of people to curtail that fundamental freedom through acts of extreme violence and fear,” he declared.

The President also called for calm in the aftermath of the attack and assured citizens that those behind the atrocity would face the full weight of the law.

He extended his condolences to the bereaved families and expressed sympathy to the people and government of Kaduna State over the tragic loss.
