His Death is National Loss – Northern Governors Mourn Legendary Business Mogul Aminu Dantata
Northern Governors have expressed profound grief over the passing of legendary business mogul and philanthropist, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, describing his death at the age of 94 as a monumental national loss and the close of a historic chapter in Nigeria’s economic journey.
In a condolence message issued on behalf of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGF), its Chairman and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON, paid glowing tribute to the late Dantata, whom he described as one of Africa’s most accomplished private sector leaders and a symbol of integrity, humility, and service.

“It is with deep sorrow and a profound sense of national bereavement that I, on behalf of the Government and people of Gombe State and the Northern States Governors’ Forum, mourn the death of Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata,” the statement read. “His passing marks the end of a remarkable era—an era defined by visionary enterprise, selfless philanthropy, and exemplary leadership.”
Governor Inuwa Yahaya hailed the late Dantata as a towering figure in Nigeria’s economic development whose life was devoted to expanding commerce, creating jobs, and uplifting humanity.
“Alhaji Dantata was not just a successful businessman; he was a national institution whose socio-economic contributions shaped the lives of millions. Northern Nigeria and the country at large have lost a pillar of support, a fount of wisdom, and a genuine elder statesman,” he added.
The NSGF Chairman extended the collective condolences of his fellow governors to the Dantata family, the people and government of Kano State, and all Nigerians mourning the loss of a national icon.
He prayed for Almighty Allah (SWT) to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased and grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.
Alhaji Aminu Dantata was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s foremost entrepreneurs and philanthropists, playing a significant role in shaping the modern commercial landscape of the country over several decades.
