Lagos Police Arrest 7 Suspects for Hijacking Fuel Tanker, Recover Stolen Oil

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have smashed a notorious gang specializing in the hijacking of fuel and goods trucks, leading to the arrest of seven suspects and the recovery of a hijacked fuel tanker in the Ejigbo area of the state.

The breakthrough came after the driver of a 45,000-litre Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) tanker reported to the Surulere Police Division that his vehicle had been hijacked while transiting through the Alaka area of Surulere around 6:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Following the report, detectives and special operatives of the command immediately launched a manhunt for the suspects. Their efforts led to the discovery of the abandoned tanker—completely emptied—at the Orile area of Lagos.

Further investigations led officers to a filling station in Ejigbo, where the stolen fuel had allegedly been offloaded. Shockingly, another tanker was being filled with the stolen PMS at the time of the police arrival.

The police promptly arrested seven suspects at the scene. They are:

Izuchukwu Nwanoruo (34), a businessman from Ejigbo

Kayode Falodun (29), a tricycle rider from Ejigbo

Ojo Ayodele (35), a mechanic from Ijegun Ijedodo

Ayomide Thompson (24), a graphics designer from Ijegun Ijedodo

Ahmed Saliu (37), a driver from Ejigbo

Igbalaye Kareem (38), a trader from Ogun State

Babatunde Ahmed (38), a driver from Ejigbo

In addition, another fuel tanker suspected to have been used to transport the stolen PMS was impounded as an exhibit.

The suspects are currently in custody and assisting police with further investigations. According to the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commending his operatives for their swift and professional response, CP Jimoh reassured Lagos residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property. He also urged the public to continue providing timely and useful information to help in combating crime across the state.
