Army Troops Ramp Up Nationwide Operations, Arrest Suspects, Recover Weapons
The Nigerian Army has stepped up its June 25 nationwide operations against terrorists and criminal elements, with fresh offensives between June 25 and 26, 2025, resulting in the arrest of three suspects and the recovery of a cache of arms and over 1,600 rounds of live ammunition across multiple theatres.
The Nigerian Army, in a statement posted on X said in Borno State, troops of 82 Division Task Force Battalion recovered 408 rounds of 12.7mm ammunition, 1,200 rounds of 7.62mm, and two 40mm rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) bombs during a patrol in Ngoshe, Gwoza Local Government Area.
The recovered items were found along a notorious withdrawal route used by insurgents belonging to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS)
In a separate operation, troops of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade neutralized three terrorists during a raid in Bama LGA of Borno. A Dane gun was recovered during the mission, which also led to the destruction of terrorist hideouts and life-support structures.
Also in Borno, vigilant troops in Monguno intercepted a vehicle laden with logistics suspected to be meant for terrorists. One suspect was arrested, and seized items included 65 litres of petrol, four bags of rice, five bags of groundnuts, four bags of NPK fertilizer, tubers of yam, seven motorcycle headlights, ten solar lights, 2,000 empty cement bags, four solar panels, and one mobile phone.

In the North West, troops of 2 Battalion, while escorting a convoy in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State, recovered an AK-47 rifle loaded with 30 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition after engaging fleeing armed men riding a motorcycle. Similarly, troops of 1 Brigade in Zamfara State neutralized a notorious terrorist kingpin identified as “Mai Dada” during a counteroffensive in Maru LGA.
In Edo State, security forces apprehended a criminal suspect in Etsako Central LGA with a pump-action shotgun and cutlasses.
In Plateau, troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN conducted clearance operations across Tangur, Kwakas, Horop, Tulus, Jinak, and Hokk villages in Bokkos LGA. The troops exploited mountainous terrain with the support of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and recovered a Dane gun abandoned by fleeing criminals.
Meanwhile, in Benue State, troops under Operation WHIRL STROKE rescued five kidnapped passengers along the Peykia-Wukari road in Ukum LGA. The kidnappers fled into the bush following a gunfight, leaving behind their victims and a vehicle.
Similarly in south, Bayelsa State, troops of 5 Battalion deployed at Otueke in Ogbia LGA apprehended two suspects found in possession of two locally fabricated pistols and one round of 9mm ammunition.
The Nigerian Army reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining pressure on criminal elements and dismantling their operational networks to ensure lasting peace and stability across the country.
