Youths Applaud Tsenyil’s Confirmation, Back Tinubu’s Regional Development

The North Central Youth Assembly (NCYA) has hailed the confirmation of Cyril Tsenyil as the pioneer Managing Director of the North Central Development Commission(NCDC), describing the Senate’s approval as a landmark decision for inclusive governance and regional development.

In a statement issued Tuesday by its President, Gideon Unazi, the group commended the Nigerian Senate for what it called “a historic and patriotic endorsement” of a commission poised to address the long-standing developmental neglect, insecurity, and infrastructural decay across the region.

“We commend the Senate for acting with urgency, maturity, and a strong sense of duty,” Unazi stated. “By confirming Mr. Tsenyil, they have not only fulfilled a national promise but also renewed the hopes of millions in the North Central.”

Unazi described Tsenyil as a competent, grassroots-connected leader, adding that his appointment signals the beginning of a transformative chapter for the region.

“This is more than just an appointment — it’s a clear statement about the kind of future we seek: one driven by integrity, capacity, and regional inclusion,” he added.

Praising Tsenyil’s credentials, the NCYA noted his track record in public service, development planning, and community engagement, affirming his readiness to lead the Commission into impactful service.

“Mr. Tsenyil is not a stranger to the region’s realities. He understands its geography, its people, and its challenges. His humility, competence, and passion for development make him the right person for this critical role,” Unazi said.

The youth assembly also expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for signing the NCDC Establishment Bill into law and nominating individuals with “a deep understanding of regional dynamics and national cohesion.”

“President Tinubu has shown through decisive action that no region should be left behind,” Unazi said. “With the signing of the NCDC Act and the appointment of credible leadership, he has reaffirmed his commitment to unity through equity.”

According to the group, the Commission’s mandate extends beyond rebuilding infrastructure — it must restore lives, dignity, and economic opportunities in communities plagued by violence and neglect.

“We believe Mr. Tsenyil understands the weight of this mandate. From Nasarawa to Benue, from Niger to Plateau, the Commission must be a bold driver of regeneration,” Unazi stated. “We need a Commission that breathes in the towns, villages, and IDP camps of North Central Nigeria.”

The NCYA pledged to play a constructive role in the Commission’s journey, offering both support and accountability.

“We will stand by the Commission when it serves the people and speak out when it strays from its mission. This is a sacred trust, not just a political appointment,” Unazi emphasized.

Also confirmed by the Senate was Cosmas Akyhir as Chairman of the Commission. Seventeen others were appointed as Executive Directors, representing the six North Central states and other geopolitical zones.

The newly confirmed Executive Directors include:

James Abel Uloko (Benue)

Princess Atika Ajanah – Projects (Kogi)

Bilgis Jumoke Sanni (Kwara)

Aishatu Rujui Ibrahim (Nasarawa)

Muhammad Bashar (Niger)

Dauda Shuaibu Kigbu (Nasarawa)

Zakari Haliru Jikantoro (Niger)

Sulaiman Buka Ali (Kogi)

Bunmi Olusona (Kwara)

Umar Ibrahim Mantu (Plateau)

Atotse Abraham (Benue)

Solomon Adodo (FCT)

Abdulkadir S. Usman (North-West)

Habu Maman (North-East)

Atinuke Owolabi (South-West)

Rachael Kufre Nse (South-South)

Chief Boniface Izziogu (South-East)

Unazi welcomed the broad-based composition of the Commission and urged its members to put regional progress above political affiliations.

“The diversity of this board reflects readiness to serve all corners of Nigeria — but especially the North Central, where the needs are urgent and the scars are deep,” he said. “From Guma to Jos East, from Mokwa to Karu, our people expect real results.”

He called on the Commission to adopt a citizen-first approach, prioritizing inclusive development, local empowerment, and transparent governance.

“We expect the Commission’s impact to be visible in places of deep suffering — in the hunger of displaced farmers, in children without schools, and in women trekking hours for healthcare,” Unazi said.

He concluded with gratitude to President Tinubu for what he described as a “bold and just intervention.”

“Mr. President, we thank you. With this Commission, you have offered the North Central not just a platform — but a lifeline. May this mark the beginning of a new era of peace, prosperity, and progress for our people,” he added.
