Military’ll  Support Regional Growth for Lasting Peace, CDS Assures

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has reaffirmed the commitment of the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) to support regional development initiatives as a pathway to building lasting peace and national stability.

General Musa made the pledge during a courtesy visit to the Minister of State for Regional Development, Alhaji Maigari Uba Ahmadu, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, 8 July 2025.

Brigadier General Tukur Gusau Director, Defence Information disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said the CDS said: “Communities with more development often enjoy more peace.” He reiterated the military’s resolve to go beyond kinetic operations by contributing meaningfully to social and economic development.

He commended the Ministry for its partnership with the military, particularly in supporting the training of the AFN Special Forces, noting that such collaborations enhance operational effectiveness and national security.

“This visit is to deepen our existing relationship with the Ministry. The Armed Forces are not just about fighting wars; we are partners in progress and national development,” General Musa said.

In his remarks, Alhaji Maigari Uba Ahmadu described the CDS’s visit as historic and symbolic of the growing synergy between civil and military institutions. He applauded the Armed Forces for their sacrifices in preserving Nigeria’s sovereignty and their proactive efforts in civic programmes.

The Minister highlighted the military’s role in establishing schools and providing support for children of repentant insurgents as examples of how defence institutions contribute to reconciliation and nation-building.

“We are proud of what the Armed Forces are doing across the country, and we will continue to support your efforts to ensure that peace and development go hand in hand,” Alhaji Uba Ahmadu said.

He also paid glowing tribute to fallen heroes and reaffirmed his confidence in the military’s ability to overcome Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
