TRADOC Commander Tasks Army Training Schools to Own Doctrine, Drive Transformation

The Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Nigerian Army, Major General Kevin Aligbe, has called on military training institutions to take full ownership of doctrinal development as part of efforts to transform the Nigerian Army in line with global standards.

A statement today signed by Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, TRADOC Nigerian Army in Minna.

Speaking at the opening of the 2025 Nigerian Army Doctrine Development Workshop on Tuesday in Minna, Niger State, Major General Aligbe stressed that doctrine remains the soul of the Army, guiding its operations, structure, and strategic focus.

“With doctrine, we define who we are and what we are meant to do as professionals. It ensures that the Army remains focused, organised, trained, and equipped,” he said.

Themed “Enhancing Doctrinal Development for Effective Training and Operations in a Joint Environment,” the workshop was organised in collaboration with the Army Headquarters. Aligbe urged participants to engage fully and contribute meaningfully to shaping a doctrine that reflects current realities and international best practices.

He noted that the “Soldier First in Focus” concept, which prioritises training, leadership, equipment, and troop welfare, must guide the doctrinal process. “This doctrine must enrich the quality of our officers and soldiers,” he added.

The TRADOC Commander, who served as the Special Guest of Honour at the event, reminded participants that Army doctrine is reviewed every five years, adding that TRADOC remains a centre of excellence for building the Army’s capacity in training and doctrinal development.

In his welcome address, Chief of Doctrine and Combat Development, Major General Jamiu Jimoh — represented by Major General Mohammed Babayo — said the workshop aligns with the Chief of Army Staff’s philosophy to transform the Nigerian Army into a well-motivated and combat-ready force capable of operating in a joint and multi-agency environment.

He described doctrine as a unifying tool that ensures operational harmony and effectiveness, particularly in joint military environments. He also commended TRADOC leadership for facilitating the workshop and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to doctrinal excellence.

The workshop is expected to equip participants with practical knowledge to strengthen teaching and doctrinal implementation across all Army training institutions and formations.
