NAF Airstrike Pounds Bandits in Zamfara Forest, Destroys Convoy of Armed Fighters

Nigerian Air Force fighter jets have rained precision firepower on a massive convoy of bandits along the Kebbi–Zamfara axis, wiping out scores of terrorists and crippling their ability to operate, PRNigeria reports.

The operation, conducted under Operation FANSAR YAMMA, targeted over 150 motorcycles ferrying heavily armed fighters near Yarbuga in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

The air assault delivered a decisive blow to the criminal elements attempting to migrate and regroup in the region.

A press statement issued by Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, confirmed this today in Abuja.

Air Commodore Ejodame said  the precision airstrikes were executed on 9 July 2025 after surveillance teams confirmed the movement of a large convoy of over 150 motorcycles, each reportedly conveying two armed fighters.

“Upon positive identification of the hostile elements, NAF aircraft engaged the convoy with surgical precision,” the statement read.

“Survivors attempting to escape on foot and motorcycles were subsequently targeted with follow-up strikes, effectively disrupting their withdrawal and neutralising several others.”

In a mop-up operation carried out by ground forces the following day, troops discovered the corpses of scores of neutralised bandits, weapons, and several incinerated motorcycles at the scene of the strike.

The air-ground synergy, according to the Air Force, delivered a heavy blow to the terror network operating in the area.

PRNigeria gathered that the operation is part of ongoing efforts to degrade the capacity of armed groups and ensure they no longer pose a threat to law-abiding citizens in Nigeria’s North-West.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian Air Force to supporting ground troops, denying terrorists freedom of action, and ensuring the protection of civilian lives and property.

The success of the mission further underscores the growing effectiveness of joint military operations and real-time intelligence in the ongoing counterterrorism campaign across the country.
