NAF Surgical Airstrikes Decimate Bandit Convoy, Eliminate Scores in Kebbi-Zamfara Axis
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched a major offensive under Operation FANSAN YAMMA, neutralising scores of armed bandits in a series of precision airstrikes along the Kebbi–Zamfara axis.
Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, confirmed the development in a statement released on Wednesday.
According to him, the coordinated air assault, conducted on July 9, 2025, targeted a large convoy of terrorists on the move near Yarbuga in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Intelligence reports had earlier revealed the movement of close to 150 motorcycles, each carrying at least two armed fighters, advancing in batches through the area.

Following the confirmation of hostile elements, NAF aircraft engaged the convoy with deadly precision. According to military sources, survivors were seen fleeing in disarray, abandoning their motorcycles and weapons, as air assets maintained persistent surveillance and executed follow-up strikes to block escape routes.
In a swift follow-up operation on the morning of July 10, 2025, ground troops advanced to Yarbuga village to exploit the impact of the strikes. The troops reportedly discovered the remains of scores of neutralised terrorists, burnt motorcycles, and recovered weapons at the scene.
The successful joint air-ground operation is seen as a significant blow to bandit networks operating in the Northwest and underscores the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to safeguarding civilians, degrading terrorist capabilities, and supporting ground troops in restoring peace to troubled regions.
