Buhari’s Family Lauds Presidency, Citizens, Others for Nationwide, Global Support
The family of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed profound gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, First Lady Senator Remi Tinubu, and Nigerians at large for their overwhelming show of support during the period of mourning and burial rites.
In a statement signed by former presidential spokesperson Garba Shehu on behalf of the family, Malam Mamman Daura, the most senior member of the Buhari family, said the kind gestures and presence of national and international dignitaries have provided the family with comfort and strength in the face of their painful loss.
“It is truly comforting to receive such support from President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, who visited both the United Kingdom and Daura to commiserate with us. These gestures have instilled in us the courage to bear the loss,” Daura said.
The family particularly thanked President Tinubu for declaring a public holiday in Buhari’s honor and renaming the University of Maiduguri after the late president — describing the actions as thoughtful and memorable tributes.
They also acknowledged world leaders who offered condolences through personal visits, representatives, letters, or telephone calls. Notable among them were King Charles III of England, UN Secretary-General António Guterres, Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, the African Union Chairperson, and ECOWAS leaders. Former Nigerian Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar was also commended for his solidarity.
