Anambra CP Orutugu Wins NUJ’s Best Crime Fighter Awards

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has been named the “Best Crime Fighter – Man of the Year 2025” by the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Council.

The prestigious award was presented during the FCT Press Week Lecture and Awards Ceremony, held on Monday at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja. Themed “Journalism in a Changing World: Press Freedom, Media, Democracy and Society,” the event drew journalists, security experts, and dignitaries from across Nigeria.

CP Orutugu was honoured for what the NUJ described as his “exceptional leadership, strategic approach to crime prevention, and unwavering commitment to public safety and the rule of law” since assuming duty in Anambra State.

Under his leadership, the state has recorded significant breakthroughs in dismantling criminal syndicates, reducing violent crimes, enhancing community policing, and fostering closer cooperation among security agencies.

According to the NUJ FCT Council, CP Orutugu’s professionalism and transparent leadership have restored public confidence in the police and elevated the overall security architecture of the state.

While receiving the award, the Commissioner dedicated the honour to the gallant men and women of the Anambra State Police Command. “This is a collective victory. I accept this award on behalf of every officer who has risked their life for the safety of Anambra people,” he said.

The award ceremony was attended by high-ranking security and media figures, including the Inspector General of Police, represented by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi; the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 7, represented by ACP Odugbesan O.; and several senior officers and stakeholders.

The Anambra Police Command has described the recognition as a testament to the tireless efforts of its officers and reiterated its commitment to professional and community-oriented policing.
