Nigerian Navy Hailed for Operational Successes, Positive Public Perception

Strategic communication and media intelligence outfit, PRNigeria, has commended the Nigerian Navy for its operational achievements and rising public approval, citing data-driven insights from its latest perception analysis.

During a courtesy visit to the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ikechukwu Ogalla, the Publisher of PRNigeria, Mr. Yushau A. Shuaib, presented the organization’s sectoral quarterly perception index, which highlights the Navy’s impressive performance in maritime security and public engagement.

According to Shuaib, PRNigeria’s media monitoring between May and July 2025 revealed that 62% of news reports on the Nigerian Navy were positive. These reports underscored the service’s effectiveness in tackling maritime crimes, enhancing civil-military relations, and fostering inter-agency collaboration.

The report recorded over 50 media stories—72% of which appeared in online publications—covering major naval operations. Notable among these were the interception of trafficked pangolin scales, recovery of stolen crude oil, and the dismantling of illegal refineries. Shuaib noted that, over the past two years, the Navy had seized 76 vessels, arrested 242 suspects, and thwarted maritime crimes valued at over ₦34 billion.

He also lauded the Navy’s community engagement initiatives, including medical outreach programs, infrastructure development, food security campaigns, and educational support. Shuaib praised recent strategic advancements such as the deployment of new patrol vessels, combat helicopters, and the establishment of a Special Operations Command, alongside the Navy’s adoption of Artificial Intelligence for training and internal operations.

While acknowledging a few negative reports involving isolated incidents, Shuaib emphasized the Navy’s resilience, professionalism, and consistency in executing its mandate. He recommended strengthening inter-agency collaboration, enhancing strategic communication, and promoting third-party documentation of achievements through independent publications—efforts PRNigeria is already undertaking.

“The Nigerian Navy’s growing impact is not only noted—it is deeply appreciated by both Nigerians and the international community,” Shuaib stated, assuring continued partnership in promoting accurate narratives and countering disinformation.

In response, the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ogalla, through the Director of Policy and Plans, Rear Admiral A. Ahmed, expressed appreciation for PRNigeria’s commitment to credible journalism and factual reporting. He particularly praised PRNigeria’s Fact-Check Desk for its role in combating misinformation and preserving national stability.

“PRNigeria’s fact-checking efforts are vital in shielding the public from incitement and false narratives,” Rear Admiral Ahmed said. “By promoting accuracy, it plays a critical role in preserving peace, strengthening governance, and preventing social disintegration—all essential to national security.”

He also commended PRNigeria’s independent perception index as a reliable tool for objectively assessing institutional performance and public trust. Rear Admiral Ahmed affirmed the Nigerian Navy’s readiness to continue partnering with PRNigeria and similar institutions in advancing national interests.
