Troops Repel Bandit Attacks in Katsina, Plateau, Recover Rustled Cattle, Sustain Casualties

Security forces have successfully repelled separate banditry attacks in Katsina and Plateau States, recovering stolen livestock and intensifying efforts to apprehend the fleeing assailants.

In Katsina State, a coordinated response by security operatives foiled a cattle rustling operation in Lambun Kyauta village, located in Malumfashi Local Government Area. The attack occurred at about 10:30 p.m. on Monday, July 29, when suspected armed bandits invaded the residence of a local herder, Alhaji Rabi’u, and rustled his livestock.

Swiftly deployed security personnel intercepted the attackers and engaged them in a fierce gun duel, forcing the bandits to abandon the rustled cattle and retreat into the surrounding bush. During a subsequent search operation, the troops encountered a group of hunters, leading to another exchange of gunfire. Fortunately, no casualties were reported. Security presence has since been reinforced in the area as efforts continue to track down the fleeing suspects.

In a related development, a joint security team also repelled a bandit attack on Dogon Ruwa village in Bashar District of Wase Local Government Area of Plateau State on the same day at approximately 2:20 p.m.

According to local sources, the bandits stormed the village and began shooting sporadically, triggering a swift counter-assault by combined forces comprising Nigerian Army personnel, police operatives, and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

After a protracted gun battle, the bandits were forced to flee. However, the encounter claimed the lives of four security personnel—two soldiers and two CJTF members. Additional reinforcements from Operation Safe Haven have been deployed, and security operatives are currently conducting bush-combing operations to locate and neutralize the fleeing attackers.

Authorities have reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, vowing not to relent in the ongoing fight against banditry and criminal elements threatening rural communities.
