After ₦250m Ransom Demand, Security Guard Arrested for Murder of Caregiver, Toddler in Abuja School

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has apprehended a suspect in connection with the brutal murder of 55-year-old caregiver, Mrs. Chinyere Anaene, and a one-year-old toddler, Nanenter Yese, at Clear Hope Foundation Academy in Dawaki, Abuja.

According to Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the command received a distress report on July 23 regarding the disappearance of Mrs. Anaene, a nurse at the academy, and young Nanenter Yese, who had been entrusted to her care.

????️ “Later that day, while at the police station, the caregiver’s husband received a ransom demand of ₦250 million through her mobile phone,” Adeh disclosed.

In swift response, the command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit launched an investigation utilizing digital forensics, which traced both victims and suspects to locations in Yelwa and Uke, Nasarawa State. A security guard employed at the school was taken into custody.

The suspect, during interrogation, confessed to colluding with his close friend to perpetrate the crime. He revealed that Mrs. Anaene was lured into a school bathroom and strangled. The toddler was also killed in a similarly gruesome manner.

Bodies Recovered from Canal

The bodies of both victims were concealed in a sack, transported with a scavenger’s cart, and dumped in a canal. The suspect later led officers to the disposal site where the remains were recovered.

SP Adeh reaffirmed the command’s commitment to justice, stating, “The command expresses its heartfelt condolences to the families of Anaene and Baby Nanenter and assures that justice will be pursued with full resolve on the matter.”
