Kano Govt Receives Report on Commissioner’s Alleged Role in Drug Baron’s Bail

The Kano State Government has officially received the report from a fact-finding committee investigating allegations that the Commissioner for Transport, Alhaji Ibrahim Namadi, helped secure bail for a suspected drug baron.

The committee’s chairman, Barrister Aminu Hussain, submitted the report on Monday to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim. Hussain stated that the committee conducted a “thorough, impartial, and evidence-based inquiry” into the matter involving a suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Aminu Danwawu.

According to a statement from the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the committee interviewed key individuals, including Commissioner Namadi, who provided a written statement. They also spoke with Abubakar Umar Sharada, Senior Special Assistant on Political Mobilisation, and Musa Ado Tsamiya, Senior Special Assistant on Drainages.

To ensure a comprehensive investigation, the committee consulted with various security and legal bodies, including the State Security Service (SSS), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).

“We examined certified true copies (CTCs) of all relevant documents and carefully reviewed applicable laws. Our investigation was guided by due diligence, objectivity, and strict adherence to professional standards,” Hussain said.

Hussain praised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his non-interference, which he said allowed the committee to work “independently… without fear or favour.”

Upon receiving the report, the SSG thanked the committee for its diligence and professionalism, noting that the matter had drawn “significant public interest.” Alhaji Farouk assured the committee that the report would be forwarded to the governor for review and appropriate action “within the hour.” The government is expected to study the findings and take action based on its recommendations.
