JUST IN: NAHCON Announces Fare for 2026 Hajj Exercise

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has announced a tentative fare of N8.5 million for the 2026 Hajj exercise.

This was revealed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Commission’s Assistant Director of Information and Publication, Fatima Sanda Usara.

According to the statement, the fare was proposed following a post-Hajj review meeting involving NAHCON leadership and the Chairmen and Secretaries of State Pilgrims’ Welfare Boards to assess the conduct of the 2025 Hajj operations.

The fare, however, remains provisional pending final negotiations and agreements on all service contracts related to the pilgrimage.

The statement further disclosed that Nigeria has retained its 95,000 Hajj slot allocation from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for 2026. The distribution of slots to state pilgrims’ boards will also remain unchanged from the previous year.

NAHCON Chairman, Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman, expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support to Nigerian pilgrims and the Commission. He particularly commended the Federal Government’s intervention that allowed Hajj carriers to accept payments in naira—an initiative that cushioned pilgrims from the volatility of foreign exchange rates.

Also at the meeting, the Commissioner in charge of Planning, Research, Statistics, Information, and Library Services (PRSILS), Professor Abubakar Abubakar Yagawal, led discussions on the 2026 Hajj calendar.

In his remarks, Commissioner of Operations, Prince Anofiu Elegushi, opened deliberations on the possible rollover of contracts for the four airlines that operated during the 2025 Hajj. He cited bureaucratic bottlenecks and the tight timelines imposed by the Saudi Hajj calendar as reasons to consider early arrangements for airlift slots.

The meeting is part of NAHCON’s broader efforts to ensure better planning, improved service delivery, and seamless operations for the 2026 Hajj pilgrimage.
