NAF Jets Pound Insurgents After Failed Attack on Rann Troops
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched coordinated air strikes that crushed a group of insurgents attempting to attack Nigerian troops stationed in Rann, Borno State, in the early hours of Thursday, 8 August 2025.
The air interdiction mission, carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), followed credible intelligence that revealed movements of armed terrorists planning to ambush military forces in the area. Upon receiving the intel, the NAF promptly deployed Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms to monitor enemy movement and coordinate a precision strike with ground troops.
According to a statement by the Director of Public Relations and Information, from the Headquarters, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the NAF aircraft made contact with the insurgents while they were attempting to flee after their attack plan was thwarted.

The jets engaged the hostile elements with precision munitions, neutralising several of the terrorists in the process.
“The swift and decisive action by the Air Component not only disrupted the terrorists’ plan but also restored calm to Rann and its surrounding areas,” the statement read.
“This operation underscores the Nigerian Air Force’s commitment to providing effective close air support to ground forces and ensuring the rapid neutralisation of insurgent threats.”
Residents of Rann, a community that has long suffered from Boko Haram and ISWAP-related violence, reportedly expressed relief as the situation quickly returned to normal following the air strikes.
Air Commodore Ejodame reiterated the NAF’s resolve to sustain aggressive air campaigns in support of joint operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks in Nigeria’s Northeast.
