Kogi, Kaduna, Benue Lead as Over 1.9 Million Apply for Civil Defence, Correctional, Immigration, Fire Service Jobs

Kogi, Kaduna, and Benue states have emerged as the top three sources of applications in the 2025 Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) recruitment exercise, which attracted over 1.9 million Nigerians before the portal closed on Monday, August 11.

According to official figures from CDCFIB, Kogi topped the list with 116,162 applicants, followed closely by Kaduna with 114,536 and Benue with 110,565. They were joined by Kano and Niger to make up the five states with the largest applicant pools, collectively contributing 510,174 applications — more than a quarter of the total entries.

The recruitment exercise, aimed at filling positions in the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Fire Service (FFS), and Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), was marked by repeated postponements and technical hitches. Originally billed to start on June 26, it was shifted to July 14 and later July 21, with the closing date extended from August 4 to August 11.

At the other end of the spectrum, Bayelsa (11,669), Lagos (14,216), Rivers (22,210), Ebonyi (23,601), and Delta (27,962) recorded the lowest numbers, together accounting for just 99,658 applications.

Following the closure of the application portal, CDCFIB announced via its official X account that shortlisted candidates will soon be contacted with details of the next stage of the recruitment process. The board advised applicants to monitor their email, SMS, and its official portal and social media platforms for updates.

“Recruitment Applications Closed!… We thank all applicants for their interest and commitment to serving with honour, integrity, and national pride,” the statement read.
