Army Commences Senior Staff Course Exams for 260 Officers
No fewer than 260 middle cadre officers of the Nigerian Army have commenced the 2025 Senior Staff Course Qualifying Examination, a crucial step in their professional advancement and leadership development.
The examination, conducted by the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Nigerian Army, is taking place at the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps Centre, Ihejirika Auditorium, Jaji Military Cantonment, Kaduna State.
President of the Examination Board, Maj.-Gen. Kelvin Aligbe, said the test was designed to evaluate officers’ determination, capabilities, and proficiency across their specialisations. The syllabus covers eight core subjects, including tactics, low-intensity conflict, geopolitics, and military law.

Aligbe stressed the need for integrity and transparency, assuring candidates that the panel would uphold the sanctity of the process. He outlined examination rules, warned against malpractice, and reminded participants that a minimum score of 50% in all subjects is required for selection to the Armed Forces Command and Staff College.
“This examination is about merit. Those who pass will attend the Senior Staff Course based on performance and available slots. I expect nothing short of a 100% pass rate,” he said.
He also noted that candidates are allowed a maximum of three attempts to pass, with some officers currently on their second try.
To encourage excellence, Aligbe announced the introduction of Certificates of Excellence, Letters of Commendation, and cash prizes for the top three candidates, with copies of their awards placed in their official service records.
Earlier, Maj.-Gen. Usman Yusuf, Commander of the Infantry Corps, commended the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, and other senior officers for their support. He underscored the examination’s importance for career progression and urged candidates to give their best effort while avoiding malpractice.
The Senior Staff Course Qualifying Examination remains one of the most significant gateways to higher command roles in the Nigerian Army, shaping the future leadership of the force.
