NDLEA Raids Kano Drug Dens, Arrests 49 Suspects

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Kano Strategic Command has arrested 49 suspects for various drug-related offences following coordinated raids across the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, said in a statement on Wednesday that the arrests were made during operations carried out on August 7 and 8 as part of intensified efforts to combat drug trafficking and abuse.

According to him, 34 suspects were apprehended at known drug flashpoints, including Massallacin Idi, Fagge Plaza, Kofar Mata, Kofar Wambai, Kofar Dan’agundi, Makabartar Dan’agundi, Ladanai, Zage, and Tashar Rimi at Rimi Market. Another 15 suspects were arrested during raids at Kano Line Motor Park and Tashar Rami Motor Park in Na’ibawa.

Items recovered from the suspects include cannabis sativa, Pregabalin, diazepam, codeine syrup, Rohypnol, “suck and die,” rubber solution, and locally made weapons.

NDLEA State Commander, Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, said the operation aimed to dismantle drug joints and disrupt the supply networks of dealers operating in Kano.

“Since the upgrade of NDLEA operations in Kano to a strategic command level, there has been a marked increase in both the effectiveness and reach of our work,” Idris-Ahmad noted. He commended NDLEA Chairman and Chief Executive, Retired Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba-Marwa, for his steadfast leadership and support.

“Buba-Marwa’s commitment to a drug-free society inspires our team to pursue our mission with renewed determination,” he added, warning drug traffickers to desist or face the full weight of the law.

The commander reaffirmed NDLEA’s resolve to protect the public from the dangers of drug abuse and trafficking, stating that investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be prosecuted upon completion.
