Family Members of ISWAP Fighters Surrender to Troops in Borno

No fewer than 25 family members of Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) fighters have surrendered to Nigerian troops in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State.

Military sources said the development followed intensified counterterrorism operations in the North-East, which have recently resulted in the killing of three fighters, the arrest of 17 suspects, and the recovery of assorted weapons.

On August 11, 2025, troops of 202 Battalion received the 25 surrendering individuals — comprising 12 adult females and 13 children — from Zalmari, Gazuwa, and Alafa villages. They are currently being profiled to determine their level of involvement in terrorist activities.

That same day, troops of 233 Battalion, working with the Civilian Joint Task Force, staged an ambush along the Sassawa–Kaburu route in Damaturu Local Government Area of Yobe State, killing one terrorist and recovering an AK-47 rifle.

In other operations, troops of 1 Brigade Combat Team 5 in Zamfara State repelled a planned terrorist attack on Forward Operating Base Galadi in Shinkafi Local Government Area, killing one assailant and seizing a mobile phone.

On August 12, acting on intelligence from a rescued kidnap victim, troops stormed Gremasa Mountain in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State, arresting eight suspected kidnappers.

In Plateau State, troops of Sector 4 Operation SAFE HAVEN arrested five suspected pipeline vandals at Kassa Village in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, recovering government-owned pipes. The suspects were handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further action.

Similarly, troops of Sector 3 Forward Operating Base Wukari, under Operation WHIRL STROKE, apprehended two suspected kidnap collaborators in Taraba State, recovering incriminating items, including Point of Sale (POS) machines, ATM cards, and cash.

Meanwhile, on August 13, troops of 34 Artillery Brigade launched an offensive against an Indigenous People of Biafra/Eastern Security Network (IPOB/ESN) camp in Ndeji Community — a border area between Anambra, Abia, and Imo states — killing one suspect and recovering a pistol with ammunition, cartridges, radios, improvised explosive device (IED) components, mobile phones, and other items.
