Anambra Bye-Election: AIG Eze Warns Against Fake News, Recycling Old Videos
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Godwin Eze, who is overseeing security operations in the ongoing Anambra bye-election, has cautioned individuals and groups against the circulation of fake election results, recycling of old videos, and the spread of inciteful remarks capable of misleading the public.
Eze stressed that such acts could trigger unnecessary tension and disrupt public peace during the electoral process. He warned that anyone caught engaging in misinformation or actions aimed at undermining the credibility of the poll would face the full weight of the law.
“The Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with sister security agencies, is fully committed to ensuring a peaceful, free, and credible electoral process,” the AIG stated.

He urged media practitioners, social media influencers, and the general public to always verify information from credible sources before sharing.
According to him, the responsibility of safeguarding the integrity of elections rests not only on security agencies but also on citizens.
The Police boss further appealed to voters and residents of Anambra to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with security personnel deployed for the bye-election.
He emphasised that the Force would not tolerate any attempt to instigate violence or spread panic through false reports.
The Anambra State Police Command, through its spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, reiterated the call for restraint and responsibility in the use of information channels, assuring that adequate measures have been put in place to protect lives, property, and the sanctity of the electoral process.
