Police Arrest 8 Suspected Kidnappers, Recover Arms in Kaduna, Delta

The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of eight suspected kidnappers and the recovery of assorted arms and ammunition in separate intelligence-led operations carried out in Kaduna and Delta States.

According to Force Headquarters, the operations were part of ongoing efforts to curb kidnapping and gunrunning across the country.

In Kaduna State, police operatives rescued one Hussaini Ibrahim, who had been abducted from Jagindi Tasha village in Jema’a Local Government Area. The victim was freed after his abductors abandoned him in a nearby forest during a police rescue mission.

Follow-up investigations led to the arrest of four suspects — Umar Yusuf Jabiri of Jagindi Tasha, Buhari Muhammad, also known as “General,” of Bayya village, Ahmadu Nasiru of Gidan Waya, and Zakari Saleh. Police also recovered one AK-47 rifle and two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles.

In a related incident, operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit intercepted a suspicious waybill from Jos, Plateau State, bound for Gusau, Zamfara State. A search revealed an AK-47 rifle concealed in a sack. Further investigation traced the origin of the firearm to Kaduna State, leading to the arrest of two suspects, identified as Abdulmumin Sani and Naziru Musa, who had arrived in Gusau to take delivery of the weapon.

Meanwhile, in Delta State, operatives of the CP-Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), supported by the X-Squad and Buffalo Patrol units, raided a suspected kidnappers’ hideout along Ibusa Road. During the raid, police apprehended 42-year-old Chiadiji Collins, also known as “Smooth,” who is allegedly linked to multiple abductions in the Ibusa, Ogwashi-Uku, and Asaba areas.

A search of his residence in Ewulu community, Aniocha South LGA, led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle and 40 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition. Further investigation resulted in the arrest of another suspect, Ezechie Andrew, who was found in possession of two pump-action guns and two live cartridges.

Police authorities said all suspects are currently assisting in investigations and will be charged to court upon conclusion of the cases.

The Inspector-General of Police, Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, commended the operatives for their tactical precision, professionalism, and bravery. He stressed that the operations underscore the Force’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, inter-agency collaboration, and community engagement.

The IGP also urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and provide timely information to the police to aid the fight against crime and ensure public safety.
