COAS Reshuffles Nigerian Army High Command, Appoints New GOCs, Commandants

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General O.O. Oluyede, has approved a major reshuffle in the Nigerian Army, appointing new General Officers Commanding (GOCs), Principal Staff Officers (PSOs), and Commandants of military institutions in a move aimed at strengthening operational efficiency across formations.

The redeployment, announced by the Nigerian Army affects senior officers in key operational and administrative positions.

In a statement by the Army spokesperson, Lt Colonel Appolonia Anele, said the new postings affect principal staff officers (PSOs) at the army headquarters, general officers commanding (GOCs), corps commanders, commandants of training institutions, and brigade commanders

According to the statement, the changes are part of ongoing efforts by the Army leadership to reinvigorate strategies in the fight against insurgency, banditry, and other security challenges confronting the country.

Under the new posting, several divisions of the Army will now operate under fresh leadership, with new GOCs appointed to spearhead field operations. In addition, new Commandants have been assigned to training institutions to drive the Army’s transformation and capacity-building agenda.

Lieutenant General Oluyede tasked the newly appointed commanders and staff officers to justify the confidence reposed in them by showing greater commitment to their constitutional responsibilities. He emphasised that the appointments were carefully considered to ensure the Nigerian Army continues to adapt to evolving security dynamics while also enhancing professionalism.

The COAS also reassured troops of the Army’s unwavering focus on welfare, logistics, and training as core pillars of his command philosophy.

While congratulating the officers on their new roles, General Oluyede reminded them that Nigerians expect results in the ongoing campaigns against terrorism, banditry, oil theft, and other criminalities threatening national peace and stability.
