Kaduna Police Recover 25 Rustled Cattle, Arrest 13 Suspects

Security operatives in Kaduna have arrested 13 suspects and recovered 25 rustled cattle during a coordinated operation along the Kaduna–Abuja Expressway.

According to security sources, the operation followed credible intelligence received by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) on August 17, at about 12:00hrs, indicating that three vehicles were conveying suspected stolen cattle through the expressway.

Acting swiftly, the DPO and his team mounted surveillance and intercepted the vehicles: a Peugeot J5 bus with registration number MKR 498 XA (Abuja), a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number DKA 805 XC (Kaduna), and another Peugeot J5 with registration number MKA 739 XA (Kaduna).

A search revealed 23 cattle hidden inside the vehicles. The drivers and occupants were immediately arrested. They were identified as: Lawal Sarki of Ungwan Dosa, Kaduna; Sule VIO of Barnawa, Kaduna; Ayuba Mohammed of Ungwan Dosa; Mohammed Bashir of Ungwan Dosa; Abu Mai Chaji of Sabon Tasha; Abdullateef Lateef of Kabala West; Shamsudden Abdullahi of Sabon Tasha; Jonathan Ishaya of Rijana; and Yakubu Alhassan of Kurmin Mashi.

Further investigations conducted in collaboration with the Anti-Kidnapping Unit led to the arrest of four additional suspects: Alhaji Abu of Suleja, Niger State; Shamsudeen Abdullahi of Layin Rimi, Kakuri; Lawal Abdullahi of Layin Rimi, Kakuri; and Abba Hamisu of Nasarawa, Kaduna. Two more cattle were recovered from them.

One of the suspects, Ahmad Abdullahi of Rijana, reportedly confessed to receiving cattle from a notorious bandit identified as Lagu, who remains at large. He further admitted to taking delivery of not less than 50 cows from another fugitive, Abdullahi of Rijana.

The case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
