Imo Police Raid IPOB/ESN Hideouts, Seize Firearms

Security forces in Imo State have successfully dislodged militant hideouts linked to the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), in Njaba Local Government Area.

The operation followed intelligence gathered from two arrested suspects, Uchenna Opara and Ozioma Ihedoro, who reportedly led security operatives to several hideouts belonging to IPOB/ESN commanders identified as Asari and Spare Key.

According to sources, ACP Odeyeyiwa Olademeji, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations (DOPS), led the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to Ubaa, Umuaka, Njaba LGA, on August 18 at approximately 1:40 p.m. Upon arrival, the armed militants engaged security operatives in a gun duel before fleeing, sustaining multiple gunshot injuries.

The police successfully cleared the hideouts and recovered a cache of weapons and other items, including: One AK-47 rifle and three AK-47 magazines, 40 rounds of live AK-47 ammunition, 60 rounds of live General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) ammunition, Two pump-action guns and 582 live cartridges, Two Biafra flags and One Point of Sale (POS) machine.

Authorities confirmed that a manhunt is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing IPOB/ESN members, who are still at large.

The operation underscores the commitment of Imo State security forces to tackling armed militancy and restoring peace in the region.
