NDLEA Hails Conviction of 2 Lagos Drug Barons to 10-Year Imprisonment

A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has convicted and sentenced two notorious drug kingpins, Ajetsibo Emami, popularly known as Warri Kinsman, and Solomon Akpomuai, to a combined 10 years’ imprisonment for trafficking in illicit drugs.

Emami, 37, was arrested on June 28, 2025, in Ikeja after operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) dismantled his drug trafficking network in a three-day operation. The raid also led to the arrest of three other suspects. Recovered from his syndicate were 24 jumbo bags containing 681 pouches of Canadian Loud, a strain of cannabis, weighing 414.2 kilograms.

Acting on intelligence, the NDLEA had intercepted the consignment which was being moved to Lekki for distribution across Lagos and other parts of the country. Emami was arraigned before Justice Deinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court 8, Lagos, in case number FHC/L/636C/2025 on a one-count charge of dealing in illicit drugs. On August 18, the judge convicted him and sentenced him to six years in prison with an option of a ₦50 million fine.

In a separate case, 51-year-old Solomon Akpomuai was arrested by men of the Nigeria Customs Service along the Shagamu–Ijebu Ode Expressway on June 3, 2025, with 2,197.8 kilograms of skunk, another potent strain of cannabis. He was handed over to the NDLEA on June 16 and subsequently arraigned before Justice Dipeolu in case number FHC/L/635C/2025 for trafficking drugs in commercial quantity. The court sentenced him to four years in prison with an option of a ₦50 million fine.

Reacting to the judgment, NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd.), said the convictions underscore the effectiveness of the agency’s ongoing strategies against drug cartels.

“These convictions are clear evidence that Nigeria will sooner than later overcome the menace of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking, thanks to the positive outcomes of our balanced approach to supply reduction and demand reduction efforts,” Marwa stated.

He commended the judiciary, NDLEA investigators, prosecutors, and other stakeholders for their role in ensuring justice and advancing the fight for a drug-free Nigeria.
