Lagos Police Arrest 5 for Car Theft, Nab Buyer
The Lagos State Police Command has arrested five suspected car snatchers and a buyer who allegedly dismantled a stolen vehicle and sold its parts.
According to a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, on Thursday, the incident occurred on August 1, 2025, when a taxi driver reported that three passengers who booked his services along Platinum Way, Jakande, Lekki, hijacked his black Toyota Corolla.
“One of the suspects pointed a locally made pistol at the driver and forced him out of the car before fleeing with the vehicle,” Hundeyin said.

Following investigations and intelligence-led operations, detectives from Ilasan Division apprehended five suspects identified as Favour Sunday (25), Ikot Moses (28), Dickson Ighobue Harrison (35), Joshua Adedamola (27) and Daniel Jonathan (26).
Further probe revealed that the stolen vehicle was sold for ₦500,000 to one Wasiu Arinola, 40, in Ibadan. The buyer allegedly dismantled the car and sold the parts separately before his arrest.
The police said efforts are ongoing to recover the pistol used in the robbery, trace other stolen vehicles linked to the syndicate, and prosecute all the suspects.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, assured residents of the Command’s commitment to safety and security. He urged members of the public to continue providing useful information to aid police operations.
