FG Okays Lifetime Salary for Retiring Senior Officers – Tunji-Ojo

The Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has disclosed that President Bola Tinubu has approved a new welfare policy granting lifetime salary benefits to senior officers retiring from the rank of Deputy Controller, Comptroller, or Commandant-General and above.

Tunji-Ojo announced the development on Thursday during the 2025 Ministerial Retreat, where he presented the ministry’s achievements and reiterated its commitment to strengthening institutional capacity and performance across all its agencies.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the Federal Fire Service spokesperson, DCF P.O. Abraham. The minister, in the statement, expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for his unwavering support, noting that agencies under the ministry have continued to benefit from the Renewed Hope Agenda.

“We have successfully cleared the long-standing backlog of promotions,” Tunji-Ojo stated, adding that more than 50,000 officers had been promoted within the past two years.

He further explained that going forward, promotions would be determined by merit, capacity, and performance.

As part of ongoing reforms, the minister revealed that the ministry had developed new training manuals and commenced the construction of a world-class Fire Academy, designed to rival globally renowned institutions such as the Arizona Fire Academy.

He also highlighted the importance of mental health support in the workplace and assured officers that the ministry would continue to prioritize their wellbeing.

Tunji-Ojo further tasked the Federal Fire Service to strengthen collaboration with the private sector, stressing that such partnerships are essential for improving service delivery, enhancing infrastructure, and modernising firefighting operations nationwide.
