FG Inaugurates Boards, Management Teams of Three Regional Development Commissions

The Federal Government has inaugurated the Governing Boards and Management Teams of three Development Commissions for the South-South, South-West, and North-Central regions, marking a new phase in its drive to accelerate balanced and inclusive growth across the country.

The inauguration, which took place at the Rotunda Hall of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja, was presided over by the Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh.

In his address, the Minister charged the appointees to align their mandates with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasizes economic reforms, national security, agricultural development, energy and natural resources, infrastructure, as well as investments in education, health, and social welfare.

“The attainment of the Presidential Deliverables assigned to the Ministry is hinged on your performance,” Momoh declared. He noted that a Performance Bond had already been signed with the President and disclosed that the Ministry would soon require the newly inaugurated teams to sign a similar bond to ensure accountability and measurable impact.

Momoh urged the officials to prioritize people-oriented projects, avoid unrealistic or self-serving programmes, and embrace ethical standards. “Your role isn’t just about distributing funds or managing projects; it’s about rebuilding trust in governance by delivering results that truly improve lives,” he said. He also called for collaboration with state governments, the private sector, and other critical stakeholders to generate new initiatives for regional transformation.

Also speaking, the Minister of State for Regional Development, Uba Maigari Ahmadu, described the establishment of the commissions as a strategic move by President Tinubu to address developmental gaps and leverage regional strengths. He noted that their mandate was to act as catalysts for infrastructure renewal, social empowerment, and economic diversification. “The success of these commissions will directly enhance the socio-economic stability of Nigeria,” he stressed.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Mary Ada Ogbe, in her vote of thanks, commended President Tinubu for his vision in establishing and appointing the boards. She emphasized that with four commissions — the NDDC, NEDC, SEDC, and NWDC — already in operation, the inauguration of the new bodies signaled government’s commitment to consolidating regional development efforts.

Representing the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Felix Uche Nwaeke cautioned the appointees against awarding “unnecessary and bogus contracts,” urging them instead to focus on projects that are adequately funded and beneficial to ordinary Nigerians. He assured them of the National Assembly’s support in ensuring that development initiatives reach the grassroots.

Other dignitaries in attendance included representatives of the Governors of Nasarawa and Plateau States, as well as the Minister of Women Affairs, Iman Ibrahim.

Board members and management appointees, in their responses, pledged loyalty to the Federal Government and promised to discharge their duties with dedication and transparency.
