Troops Kill 12 ISWAP Fighters in Borno, Foil More Attacks in North-East

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), supported by local security outfits and the Nigerian Air Force, have neutralised 12 Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in a series of targeted offensive operations conducted across Borno State between August 29 and 30, 2025.

According to military authorities, the long-range commando operations were backed by Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms of the Air Component Command, which provided real-time intelligence to guide precision strikes and troop manoeuvres.

The coordinated effort led to the clearance of terrorist strongholds in Tamsu Ngamdu, Dalakaleri and Gaza, areas notorious for insurgent activities.

A major breakthrough occurred at Loskori Kura, where troops encountered and engaged armed insurgents in a fierce gun duel. Twelve terrorists were confirmed neutralised in the exchange of fire, with several others fleeing in disarray.

Weapons recovered from the operation included eight AK-47 rifles, eight fully loaded magazines containing 7.62mm rounds of ammunition, as well as assorted drugs and medical supplies used by the terrorists to sustain their fighters in the field.

Military authorities commended the gallantry and resilience of the troops, stressing that the success underscored the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations in the fight against insurgency.

The Theatre Command was also urged to sustain the current momentum and intensify the onslaught until the insurgents are completely degraded.

This latest feat comes on the heels of several recent operational breakthroughs by OPHK troops across the North-East. Between August 21 and 23, troops successfully foiled coordinated terrorist attacks on Bita and Wulgo in Borno State, killing 11 insurgents, including two top commanders identified as Abu Nazir and Abu Fatima. Precision air bombardments during the operations destroyed insurgent hideouts, with over 20 bodies of terrorists later discovered buried in shallow graves around Kumshe following a failed night attack on a Forward Operating Base.

Similarly, Sector 1 troops engaged terrorists in fierce combat at Dipchari near Banki Junction in Bama Local Government Area, neutralising several fighters and recovering Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) tubes, AK-47 rifles, and large quantities of ammunition. In Yobe State, Sector 2 troops, in conjunction with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), conducted a tactical raid around Ndoksa near Buni Gari, resulting in additional terrorist casualties and the seizure of motorcycles and weapons.

These coordinated operations, military officials said, have significantly degraded the firepower of insurgent groups, disrupted their logistics networks, and denied them freedom of action across key theatres in the region.

The Defence Headquarters assured that the Armed Forces remain committed to dismantling the operational capabilities of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists through sustained ground and air offensives, as well as collaboration with local communities and regional partners.
