Kano Police Arrest 9 for Setting Patrol Van Ablaze, Probe Murder Case

The Kano State Police Command says it has launched investigations into a case of alleged culpable homicide in Garko Local Government Area and arrested nine suspects over a violent mob attack that disrupted police operations.

According to a statement issued on Saturday, September 6, by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the incident followed the arrest of three suspects in connection with a homicide case reported on September 4, 2025. The suspects, arrested by officers from the Wudil Area Command, had been taken to the Garko Police Division for further questioning when an angry crowd stormed the station.

The mob, armed with sticks and stones, attempted to lynch the suspects and in the process set ablaze a divisional patrol vehicle, destroyed three vehicles belonging to the Hisbah and Garko Local Government Council, and vandalized windows at the police station. Three police personnel sustained injuries and were rushed to Wudil Hospital, where they are currently responding to treatment.

The statement added that during the chaos, a burning tyre exploded and fatally struck one of the mob attackers, while three others sustained injuries.

In response, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, ordered swift containment operations and stakeholder engagements that restored normalcy in the affected community. So far, nine suspects have been arrested for their alleged roles in the mob action, while efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other perpetrators.

The Command warned residents against taking laws into their own hands, stressing that such actions undermine public peace and the rule of law. It urged citizens to channel grievances through lawful authorities instead of resorting to violence.

CP Bakori reassured residents of the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, maintaining peace, and ensuring justice. He appealed for calm and cooperation as investigations continue, promising that further updates would be communicated in due course.
