Security Forces Foil Robbery Attack on Abuja–Kaduna Highway, Enhance Patrol Along Rail Line
Security forces have foiled a robbery attempt on the Abuja–Kaduna Expressway in Niger State and intensified patrols along the highway, the Kaduna–Abuja railway corridor, and Rigasa train station as part of renewed efforts to safeguard critical transport infrastructure and travellers.
The foiled robbery occurred on September 7 at about 9:45 p.m. near Gauraka village, when armed men blocked the expressway and attempted to dispossess motorists. Upon receiving distress calls, security operatives swiftly mobilized to the scene. The suspects, driving an unregistered ash-coloured Volkswagen Golf car, opened fire sporadically before fleeing towards the Madalla–Abuja axis.
Investigations revealed that the robbers had earlier punctured the front tyre of a J5 vehicle with registration number RSH 216 XA, which was transporting unripe bananas from Ekiti State to Na’ibawa Fruits Market in Kano.

In a related development, security forces have reinforced patrols on the Abuja–Kaduna highway and boosted security along the railway corridor. According to security sources, area commanders in Jere and Kakuri, along with divisional police officers, have been placed on red alert and are working closely with other security agencies.
“Rigasa train main station has been fortified, while patrols along the railway line and sub-stations have been intensified. Patrol vehicles deployed on the Abuja–Kaduna highway are maintaining 24-hour visibility, with hourly situation reports rendered accordingly,” a source disclosed.
Authorities assured the public of their continued commitment to preventing criminal attacks, ensuring safe travel, and protecting lives and property across the corridor, which has long been a hotspot for bandit and robber activities.
