Troops Rescue 5 Kidnap Victims, Repel Multiple Bandit Attacks in Katsina
Troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA (OPFY) have successfully rescued five kidnapped victims and foiled coordinated bandit attacks across Katsina State, though three residents tragically lost their lives in the incidents, PRNigeria reports.
Security sources told Zagazola Makama that on September 7, armed terrorists invaded Gidan Kwairo village in Malumfashi Local Government Area. Soldiers of the 17 Brigade, working jointly with vigilantes and Keystone operatives, engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle. The operation forced the criminals to abandon five captives, who were later freed.

“Sadly, one local was killed by the attackers, while another sustained gunshot injuries. The injured victim was evacuated to Malumfashi General Hospital for treatment,” one of the sources said, adding that the Army remained committed to safeguarding communities in the North-West.
In a separate encounter, suspected bandits on Sunday night launched fresh assaults on Babangida and Madugu villages in Dutsinma Local Government Area. Troops, supported by the police and local patrol teams, swiftly responded and confronted the attackers, preventing a planned raid on Sabon Garin Safana.
However, two residents—25-year-old Shamsu Sani of Makera and 25-year-old Abdurrashed Rabe of Tashar Mangwaro—sustained critical gunshot injuries and later died at the General Hospital, Dutsinma.
Military sources confirmed that efforts were underway to track down the fleeing gunmen, stressing that security forces would sustain aggressive operations to dismantle criminal networks terrorizing rural communities in Katsina.
